Project Brief and Goals – Three Initiatives: 1) “Rotary Knowledge Wall†- Read, Learn and Spread Knowledge across 600 students via Self Learning and Sharing 2) “Good Thing I did†– Do a good thing in a day, make note, and spread Service Above Self thought process 3) eWaste Collection – Collect old mobiles, chargers, batteries, broken electrical and electronic equipment and make community Greener. Background: We have our Interact at Maharshi Karve Vidyalaya – Warje, where kids from neighboring Vasti, slum areas come. Most have backward social and economic background. The school is from 5th std to 10th standard and have around 600 students. Our Interact is for 8th and 9th standard and there are 60 members. The club has democratically elected board. Have been doing all meetings, board meetings per schedule and is well run Interact Club. School is very supportive. Project Descriptions: 1) Rotary Knowledge Wall – Idea was that each Interact member reads news paper, internet news (they have Digital Library), make paitings/poems/articles etc and put up on huge (8 ft x 8ft) soft board – called Rotary Knowledge Wall that Pristine fitted– so all 600 students can read, learn and get motivated by this spreading of knowledge, IQ and making kids aware. (See Photo). Contents are changed every 15days 2) “Good thing I did Today†Campaign – Pristine donated 300 note books to students in 7th to 10th standard. Kids are expected to do a good thing (like helping someone, achieving something simple, aiding mother and others at home, etc ) and write it down. Every quarter our team go to school and review it. We recognise kids who do good work and do it consistently. Many kids have written more than 10 stories, with few have written practically one thing every week or more. Select students tell the story to all at School Assembly (see photo) 3) E Waste Collection – Taking inspiration from Pristine’s own activity of eWaste Collection, school teachers and Interact members decided to do the same in their own areas. Over 50 Interact members went from house to house and collected more than 500 kg of eWaste. The kids got it to school Club members arranged Swatchh Pune to pick it from school.
